Weights busting rod eyes

Featured Replies

Most of my rods have a baitkeeper down at the reel. I noticed the other day when I picked up my rod, my unpegged texas weight went flying down the rod hitting every eye on the way. I wonder how many broken eyes are caused by this without anyone noticing. Another reason I now peg my weights, keeps things safe when the hook is on the baitkeeper.

Just get the hook in the keeper with a tiny bit of slack.  Hold the line, and spin the rod a couple times, and loop on the first guide. Problem solved.

Always wrap your line around the rod after hooking up your bait. It prevents lures or weights slapping around or sliding down and busting things up

Do what the other guys said!  Also limits tangling between multiple rods.
