I am looking at a 2man bass boat that is in rough shape, but sounds repairable. I am getting it for next to nothing. I haven’t looked at it in person yet but my understanding is that the top and bottom of the hull are separating. Will flex seal solve this issue? Not much experience with that stuff

Flex Seal may solve it temporarily.

 

A better solution might be some stainless rivets and a healthy bead of caulking.

Starting with my first plastic 2/person boat (30yrs ago) the top and bottom were just stapled together under a black rub rail. Shouldn't be to hard to fix.

The second one (20 years old now) had the top and bottom sonic welded (melted) together... If this type is separating, I'm not sure it can be repaired easily.

 

The number one thing to check for is damage on the back, bottom, outside corners for thinness or holes. Most people would slide them out of the truck onto the concrete ramp causing it to wear out the corners. I always unloaded in the grass next to the ramp. Still have the boat hanging from the garage ceiling, but it only gets used for hunting now.

Thanks for the differentiation, that’s helpful. I’ll definitely be checking for thinness of material, potential leaks. Although for the price and what I plan to do with it, it’d take a decent leak to deter me.
