How fast should my boat be going?

Featured Replies

i have a 1987 bayliner bass striker 1810 with a carburated Inline 4 Force 125. I was wondering how fast I should be going? and was wondering if I should put a 17 or a 19 pitch prop on it.

Have you run the numbers through a prop slip calculator?

Start there to get a base line when thinking about re-propping.

How fast is the engine running...rpm's @ wide open throttle? 5500-5800?

How heavy is the boat when loaded with everything you normally have in the boat? Gross weight and weight distribution directly affects boat speed. How easy is it for the boat to get on plane? If the boat struggles to get up on plane several things could be wrong, including choice of prop.

Chrysler/Force engines are known for prop clutch hub slippage and piston damage. There was a kit with thrust washers to fix the prop hub issue and don't use fuel with alcohol with your engine, it will burn up the cross flow piston.
