shaky head advice

Featured Replies

I am new to fishing shaky head baits. I understand the concept and technique. I am looking for ideas on when and where to use such jigs??? Are there certain types of floor material (sand, rocks, mud, etc) where u should not use this technique???

The shaky head may be used over any bottom whatsoever, but like any jig (even a football) it will hang up in chunk rock.

The main thing is to choose a jig with a spherical head (at least the forward hemisphere).

The only time not to fish a shakey head is when fishing grass. It is effective fishing the grass line and in openings but when in the grass you lose all the aspects of the shakey head. You will hang up in chunk rock but can sometimes maneuver out of it. Work it slow...and often times you don't need as much shakey...just slight twitches. Good luck and with practice this technique will help you tremendously.

I throw the shaky head everywhere and do not concern myself with the bottom.

Sometimes the head of the jig will be covere with black bottom slop.

But the worm still sits straight up (or on a angle) and that is all that matters.

As for the science of which jig head to use...I don't concern myself with that.

I just rig it up and throw it out.

I let the fish worry about if the jig head is correct or not for the conditiions. ;D
