Locking Rods in Car?

No info about the rods or the car or why/where you're leaving them or really the whole purpose of the question.

There's a saying:  "Garbage in, garbage out."

Well I often work in an office that's almost a hour with traffic away, but near some lakes I can fish on the way home, and the parking garage I park in is fairly sketchy so I would never leave a one piece rod in my car in plain sight. I occasionally took my kids 2pc ugly stick so I could fish a moving bait on the way home which fit in the trunk.

Once I got a truck, I have left a few rods locked in the bed in a bazooka rod tube (with a tonneau cover), and no one's jacked that yet. You can definitely make your own rod carriers from PVC or even use a shipping tube, but the rod tube is nice and does keep the rods protected fairly well. And I have a pair of plano pistol cases for reels, one for mine and one for the kids.

My wife got me the telescoping 88-inch Plano Guide Series Rod Case as a Christmas present this past year to protect my rods while in the SUV.

It is made of sturdy black plastic and can extend to over 7-feet. Check it out:

I have been trying to figure out how you can take this rod case and bolt it to the inside of your vehicle without blocking a door.

You could drill holes in the vehicle's roof and install hangars but it could block your rear view mirror and hinder your view when backing the vehicle. You would have to install and secure the hangars inside the rod holder so that the screws do not damage the rods or reels.

Or you could lay the rod case over the turned down back seats and between your seat and the passenger seat  depending on what type of vehicle you are driving.

With the case being black it would be difficult to see from outside of the vehicle.

Otherwise, I will defer to the other answers provided.

Newer 2 pc rods seem to be made much better and, from what I understand feel as good as 1 pc rods.

I agree. I have caught some very nice fish on 2 piece rods and other multiple piece rods so many of these rods are more than good enough for bass fishing.
