Dedicated 1/2 oz Jig rod. Dobyns Xtasy

Featured Replies

HI guys,

thinking of adding the 754 or the 755 to the arsenal with the crazy deals that are going on right now.

I currently have a ZBONE 7'6 MH (1/4-1oz) and a Steez AGS 7'9XH that I use for my bottom contact techniques. The ZBONE I use mainly for worming and smaller (up to 3/8oz) Texas rigged plastics while the Steez is used for the heavier (3/4oz -1.5oz) Jigs and pegged plastics.

So, I am looking for something in between. A dedicated jig rod for 1/2oz Jigs that I would use mostly in open water (with some medium cover pitching every now and there, for the heavy stuff I would use the AGS). So, wondering which of the two (754 / 755) would fit my needs best.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers,
Seb.

I have the 755c for 1/2 jigs. You will be amazed at how skinny the blank is, but yet how powerful it is. I've seen Mediums that have thicker blanks. I sold a guy a Champion XP spinning rod a few weeks ago and he picked up my Xtasy 755 and couldn't believe it was a Mag-Heavy. And, the Xtasys flat out look and feel amazing.

755. I love that rod. I have Conquests and NRX, but I have found the 755 to be a fantastic rod. It weighs a little over 5.3 ounces and balances well. It also casts very well. I use it for 1/2-1 ounce jigs, dark sleepers, 3/4 ounce Carolina rig, etc. I have seen this rod described as more like a 4.5 power rod. I would agree with assessment. I have a Bantam reel on mine. Dream set up.

How would you compare the 755 in terms of sensitivity, action of the tip to the Conquest and NRX?

Would you get the 755 again or would you pic a comparable version of another rod line?

Thanks again.

I just ordered a 754c today and it will be replacing my Conquest 904. Sensitivity is right there with NRX and Conquest. They are all great rods.

Interesting! Could you please explain the reasoning for that move?

What are you planning to throw on the 754C? I would have thought that the 904 would compare more to the 755c?!

The 755 is a 5 power rod, so it is a little stouter than the 904C. I plan to throw 3/8 jigs, carolina rigs, etc. Things 1/2 and under...

Have you had a chance to use the new 754 yet?  I'm currently torn between the 755 or 754.......

I have. Love it. If you throw 1/2 and up mainly, I would get the 755c. I think it only weighs one more ounce than the 754c. The 755c will work with 3/8 jigs, but doesn’t cast them as well as the 754. I hope that helps.

Thank you!  I typically throw 3/8 and 1/2 jigs (with a trailer), but we also don't usually have real thick stuff to contend with.  Thinking maybe I don't need the 755????

Just got my 755c out of the tube.

Definitely feels a bit more powerful, so if one threw mostly 3/8oz lures, I would also go for the 754c. If one throws 3/8oz - 1/2oz + trailer and especially in cover, get the 755c!
