Gang,

I'm replacing the bunk boards/pads on my boat trailer (the old ones rotted away) and I've been thinking.  Instead of using treated lumber and indoor/outdoor carpet for the pads, I've considered using plastic/composite decking material.  It may not be as pretty but it is water and sun-proof and seems strong enough.  Plus it's slick enough and would provide, I think, reasonable cushion.  Does anyone have any ideas on the subject?  

I think the composite would be fine if you still carpet them. You don't want your boat to slide off on a ramp after you untied the bow.

On second thought the composite is much flimsier.  So the boat would  only ride on the attachment points.  So no I'd stay with wood

I would think that it would still scratch the boat.  I think you can use PT lumber and carpet for the same cost as the composite.

I hear what you are saying. It may be too slick. Gatorblazer might be right too. It might still scratch my boat. Still, as you suggested, I may carpet over it. I wonder how hard it would be to sink staples into composite decking.

You will easily be able to sink staples into the composite wood. Yes the composite stuff is very flexible when it is at a length of about 4 feet.
