Featured Replies

Looking to buy a Stratos with this engine. wanting to know if anyone has this engine, how it runs, and if anyone has heard with problems with the model, or even opinions of the evinrude motors around the 1998 model.

The number one question of any OMC outboard of that vintage is.

"Is it a FICHT?"

If the answer is yes, buyer beware.

I have a few friends who own this motor and they seem to really enjoy them.  I've had the pleasure riding in a stratos powered by a 98' Intruder and it was a good performer.  One thing I noticed on the 98 strato's with a Intruder is that the engine would have hydrofoils to help get the boat on plane.  Its no big deal, I personally just think it makes the boat ugly.  I also agree with cart, stay away from FICHT s!!!!!!!!! AT ALL COST!!!

They were good motors. If you start to have electronic problems change the sensor that controls the beeper it's the cheapest first.

The trim has relay's, under the hood you will see 2 square boxes maybe 3/4" square if you trim quits switch the boxes around they both need to be in. And Ford and Chrylser sale the same relay cheap.
