Dobyns 704c

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Im new to the forum. I'm purchasing a dobyns 704c spinning rod. Im looking for recommendations for the reel size. I'm currently debating between 3000 and 4000. I'm looking for kind of an all purpose combo. And also if u have any reel recommendations around 100 bucks. I'm currently considering the daiwa fuego

I'd go with a 3000 - that'll handle bass no problem and be well usable for pike, walleye, whatever.

Personally - I'm a Pflueger fan...for $100 I'd go with a Supreme-35 (the 35 in Pfluegers is close to a 3000 size)

:welcome:  Lots of knowledge here.  Be sure to check out all the articles and tackle reviews.

I've not used the Fuego.  Really like my BG.  I am a fan of Daiwa spinning reels.  I prefer no bigger than a 2500 because spinning is light line for me.  Plus I don't like bigger spinning reels.  That is why I tried a baitcast reel when I got back into fishing.  Never looked back.  :teeth:

BTW, the rod number should not have a 'C' after it, but an 'SF'.  Otherwise you will wind up with a casting rod.  I ordered a spinning rod late one night.  When it arrived, it was a casting rod.  Guess why.  There was one letter difference between the casting and spinning model.  Needless to say I don't know if there was a picture of the rod.  That would have been a dead giveaway....had I been paying attention.  :lol1:

I didn't notice that earlier.

Ya

704C is a casting rod

704SF is a spinning rod

I realized I goofed up lol. I want the spinning rod but was looking at casting rods earlier and that number got stuck in my head. Thanks for the input guys. I may give the bg a shot

I had that rod and put a 2500 on it, and it balanced perfect, so I would go with a 3000. But, the 2500 I had on it was also as heavy as the Fuego LT 4000, so I'm sure that would also balance well if you liked the bigger reels.

Shimano nasci 2500 is the best $100 spinning reel out there in my opinion, I have them on all my spinning rods.

I have two Nascis, one 1000 and a 3000. I honestly think they're almost as nice as my Stradic Ci4+ 2500.

I run 2500s but if fishing mono or fluoro I wouldn’t hesitate to go with a lightweight 4000 sized reel that has a larger spool diameter which will help with line management.

A 3000 size should be perfect for that rod! I can't see needing a 4000 for anything! And I too am a huge fan of the Daiwa BG as well, it's a great reel for the price.
