Need advice on electronics?

Featured Replies

Hi guys. I just bought a used Polar Craft 17 bass boat and I want to upgrade the electronics. I am leaning towards a Lowrance HDS-7 unit on the console and a X510c unit on the bow. This is my first actual bass boat so I have alot of questions. How do I link these? Will the 510  allow me to mark waypoints if it is linked? Are there better options for around the same money? Will the 510 work with to universal sonar on my Minn Kota? HELP PLEASE. Thank you.

The X510c is compatible with all 2007 and newer units that have a 5 pin eathernet connection.

Unless my brain skipped a beat, I think the 510 is sonar only.  It won't show any wpts ever.  You need to be looking at a 520 then you can network and get wpts to show on either unit.

Didn't say it was a GPS unit. NMEA 2000 network certification is pending. Unit has a plug and play hub for high speed data sharing with other compatible units. Allows the sharing of sonar data even with a GPS only unit if you decide to go that way. The expansion port part number is 132-031 if you decide to go that route.

It (510) will not allow you to mark waypoints. You cannot network a nonGPS unit to a GPS unit and turn it into a workable gps by adding an antenna and the other unit.

May I suggest visiting the Lowrance web site and see the various units and their specifics?

Then, select the ones that fit your style of fishing the best.  :D
