Weight capacity question.

Featured Replies

The Tracker Topper 1232 jon boats have a maximum listed weight capacity of 325 pounds.  I weigh 135-140 pounds and my dad weighs 200 pounds.  Do you think It would be safe for us to get this boat?

Yes. My friend has this same boat and I weigh 250 and he weighs 190 and we have no problems in this boat. Plus add tackle, cooler, trolling motor, and battery. We have never had any problems.

I got a topper 1436, I have gone out with about 390 weight people, plus a 8 hp 4 stroke, 2 batteries, gear, etc

One thing I will tell you with that in it, it does not take much of a wave to spill into the boat. and I would not have 2 guys standing in it.

However, I have spent more hours in it fishing than I can count, and sitting down, good ride, good fishing, good price.

Hi, I have a 1436 Crestliner I bought new from the dealer. We were talking about boats and motors and the dealer told me that the capacity rating was a little deceiving. He explained that because of the buoyancy built into the boat , it would support the rated weight  when it was full of water. If that is true it makes me feel safer knowing it has some bit of safety built into it.

You can even get them out in bigger water than that. I would not take a topper out into lake Erie too far, but as long as you are mindfull of the weather and surroundings, you would be alright in most water. Just be wary of lots of wake.

I have taken mine out plenty in Lake Wylie, and except for the occasional ignoramous in a pleasure craf twho thinks it is their duty to run real close to me at high speed, I don't have an issue. With the small bilge pump I have put in, I do not ever have an issue.

Everything these guys have said and one more thing...

If you haven't bought it yet, there is a plastic jon boat at Dicks Sporting Goods that is 12' 36" and supports 425 lbs (510 persons+motor/gear).  I bought it about two weeks ago and it is amazing.  Also has a slight "V" bow to help against oncoming waves.

Just something else to consider!
