I have a 1986 ranger 375v love the boat mostly everything still works! But I can’t  remember since I’ve had the boat if I ever tested the kill switch lanyard and today while out on the water I pulled it to test it and the motor did not cut off. What could be the cause and where should I start?

Definitely not an uncommon problem, what kind of motor do you have and did you just slowly pull it out or did you pop it out rather quickly?

It’s a Johnson 175. I tried both still runs ether way.

Kill switch on most older OB's is a simple push button switch with a spring attached cover. The buttom should pop up when the cover is removed with lanyard.

Try spraying the switch with DeOxit contact spray.
