New ideas for scent containers

Featured Replies

I like to use Spike It, JJ's(after reading a Bass Resource post recommending JJ's), Bang spray and Mega Strike scent on my plastics. Mega Strike, for me, is the easiest to use and all I need is a towel after applying it. When I use the spray scent, no matter how careful I try to be, it sometimes ends up on the outside side of the boat. After spilling Spike It on the ledge of my boat last summer, I've been trying different ideas so I don't repeat that mistake. The idea I eventually went with was a Plano container. Now when I put Spike It or JJ's on my plastics, I'll do it with the bait inside the Plano container. The only problem is that I have to clean the box out when I'm done fishing for the day. I've thought about putting Spike It and/or JJ's in a small spray bottle. What's your favorite solution to applying scent without getting some in the boat?

I use a small jar (mine was originally a capers jar) about 4 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. I then dip my lures into the jar as needed. No clean up this way and you don't waist as much as you would spraying it. Hope this helps.

An eye dropper bottle works pretty good. It's a pain in the membrane to get cleaned out and refilled with scent, but it's also a lot less messy. If you insist on using a spray, you're just gonna have to live with the mess.

I used a rubber cement type jar (small brush attached directly to the lid). It works great for thicker scents like Smelly Jelly.

I use Frog Hog it comes in a container like chap stick. No chance of getting it on yourself or your boat.

Yikes!  Don't spray either JJs or Spike It.  They can stain and it is almost impossible, if not impossible, to get the stain out.

I either dip the tails in the bottles the dips come in or use an eye dropper to put the clear JJs Magic scent on the plastics.

I went to Wal-Mart and purchased an air tight food container in two sizes. The first size is for all of my JJs Magic as it is very powerful stuff.

The second container is smaller and handles the JJs and Spike-It nicely when in the boat.

I keep the jars in the container to catch any drippings and to make sure the stuff does not escape into the world.

As I said, be very careful as the stuff will stain your clothes, boat seats, carpet, shoes, etc.

When I fish on someone else's boat I use Mega Strike or Carolina Lunker Sauch in the jell containers.

just put the dyes jars inside a mason jar and dip away  be sure not to use your  good ol beer mason jar :)
