  1. I don't think I will ever use anything but braid with a fluoro leader on my spinning equipment.
  2. I get that every time I put up a pic...LOL
  3. I caught the bigger one on a 5" black/blue stick bait. He caught his on a white pond magic spinner. The bigger fish maybe went 5 lbs. I hate that thing too, but I don't know any other way to carry what I want while bank beating. :-/
  4. It's always nice when you and your fishing partner can share in the joy of catching a nice fish. Especially if mine is bigger. ;D .
  5. Well I didn't have a scale with me, but I did take a picture with the rod in it for reference. She went 23". My guess would be around 7 lbs or so.
  6. I went fishing with a friend yesterday afternoon, since the weather seemed so nice. We went to one of my favorite places to walk the banks in Delray Beach. As anyone in south Florida knows, the weather can change quick. We got to fish for about a half an hour before a serious thunderstorm rolled in and we had to run for shelter. In that short time though, we caught 7 fish, including this girl that fell for a green Yum Dinger...Can't complain... 8-)
  7. Nice fish...but even better photography work...who took that picture?
  8. I went out with my brother in the canals in Royal Palm on Tuesday morning. Fishing was good and we each had quite a few nice fish, including a few peacocks. We came to an area where the canal widens into a little lake. There is a dropoff to about 20 feet. That's like an abyss in some of these small canals. I was using a *** bushbug and working the edge of the dropoff when I hooked into this beauty. It was one of the longest fights I have ever had with a bass. It was all I could handle with my finesse rig. When I got her on the scale, it said 7-lbs 5-oz. My PB is 7-lbs 14-oz, but I would swear this fish is bigger. Either way, it made my day. ;D I know you guys up north don't want to hear it, but we quit around noon to take a break from the heat.
  9. My brother and I went fishing this morning. We went to a private community in Delray Beach that has a few small lakes in it that we like to fish. It was great morning, breezy and comfortable. The bite was really on and we had a good day. We finished up around 1:00 when the wind started picking up. We boated (shored) over 60 fish, with at least 6 that were more than 4 lbs. We used mostly plastics and spinnerbaits, but my bait of the day was an *** ***. My big fish of the day - 6lb-6oz One of my brothers nice fish We had more than a few doubles as well... All in all, not a bad day for bank-beating in January.
  10. I went out with my brother yesterday morning. All in all it was a very good day. We boated about 30, with a few in the 3-4 lb range. It was about noon or so, and we were hitting the last few spots on the way home. I casted to a little dock and was picked up on the sink. I started to reel in what felt like a small fish, when suddenly he came right at me faster than I could take up the line. When I caught up to him, he felt like a freight train. We battled give and take for about a minute and finally I got her near the boat and I saw that it was a HUGE fish. (25-30 inches) It dove away from the boat pulled some drag and then the hook pulled out and she was gone. :'( I sat there for a second and then realized something was still on the line. When I reeled it in it was an 8" dink that I assume was the original bite. I quickly released him and he was fine. Needless to say I will be placing an order for a Mattlures Baby Bass very shortly.
  11. I lived in Royal Palm for a long time, until about 5 years ago. The system of canals and small lakes is very productive. I am going to fish there sometime this season. There used to be a makeshift ramp about a mile and a half north of the Miami Subs on R.P. Blvd. It was on the west side of a bridge that crossed a canal. I think it has since been torn down. We used to use a small boat that could be carried.
  12. Well my brother and I went fishing at a local private golf course this morning. The course is closed for some green and tee box maintenance. We even got permission to use a golf cart, which made bringing some extra things easier. We got started about 7 am, and we were done just before noon. To make a long story short, we caught 57 bass. I even caught one while trolling a spinnerbait from the golf cart, that's a first. About a dozen or so were 3 lbs or more. Most of them were caught on Yum Dingers or Tiki Stiks. My brother got the 2 biggest fish ( 6 lb 10 oz, 5 lb 6 oz ). I got one about 5 lb or so. We were on opposite sides of the pond , so I couldn't weigh it and I had to take my own picture. I thought the fishing might be good here because it's rarely fished, but I didn't expect this kind of productivity. You gotta love golf course fishing! ;D My 5 lb'er - http://www.ccs-fla.com/channel98/5pounder.jpg Bro's 5lb - 6oz - http://www.ccs-fla.com/channel98/5lb-6oz.jpg Bro's 6lb - 10oz - http://www.ccs-fla.com/channel98/6lb-10oz.jpg
  13. I used a rubber cement type jar (small brush attached directly to the lid). It works great for thicker scents like Smelly Jelly.
  14. Nice fish ! My parents live in R.P.B. I grew up fishing those canals before Crestwood was Crestwood. ;D
  15. I stopped by a friend's condo in Delray yesterday. There is a small lake between the condo buildings that my friend tells me nobody ever fishes. It has always looked good to me, but I have never had a rod with me. This time I did, so I thought I would fish the last 45 minutes of daylight. I was throwing a shad colored Super Fluke. I caught 3 fish in the 1 lb range. I was happy to find that at least there were fish in there. It was getting dark and I was about to call it quits, when the fish below hit. It was 22 long. Needless to say, I will go back there soon and spend a little quality time.
