Looking for setup for fishing Bluegill and Crappie

Featured Replies

I have a nice Lews Mach 1 ultra light setup and looking for a nice bluegill/crappie setup..  Any recommendations as to what lures to throw?  Rod is rated at 1/32 to 1/4 for lure weight.  Using 6 lb mono....  Thanks in advance....

Mepps in-line spinners in size #0-#2 are always a good bet

Beetle Spins are another good option.

I like 1/16oz roadrunner with BG baby shad for crappie.

Bluegill I like 1-1.5” plastic on 1/32oz or 1 gram jig head with #6 hook. Trout magnet and tube is my favorite.

Crappie like lures that 1) don't move fast, and 2) flutter down to their depth rather than coming in at the same level. So I've used small flutter spoons (Eppinger Chucklet or 1/8 oz. Trout weight Dardevle) or very erratic spoons, portraying an injured forage fish ( 1/6 oz. Thomas Buoyant or E.P. spoons). Any of the Charlie Brewer crappie lures have been effective, also. On a windy day, try 1/16 marabou jigs under a slip bobber.

Sunfish are suckers for small plastic worms, stickbaits and curly tail baits.               jj

Small mepps, rooster tails, small spoons, I like daredevil, little Cleo and mepps spoons.  The original fluke with a 2/0 ewg hook is murder on the smaller bass, crappie and warmouth.

I love using small curly tails and little crankbaits like the creme mini crank or strikeking bitsy minnow for panfish but trout and bass will hit these too. ?☠️
