Hey believe it or not, I have a question: How often do you guys swap out your trailer tires for new ones?  Ours have a lot of tread left on them, yet they're 6 yrs old.  What's the criteria for replacing them?  Should I get new ones due to their age, or can I hold off without worry?

Unless you're a touring pro, the tread is never going to wear out.  The sun is the main enemy of the trailer tire.

I would say yours are definitely due for a change.

You are due. It's not about tread, it's a bout the breakdown of the materials.

I do wear out trailer tires on the boat but never on my 5 th weel camper.  The rule of thumb is never go into the 7 th year with any tire on anything unless you are wanting trouble.  

I had my last boat around 11 years.  It came with new trailer tires.  I changed them once at around 5-6 years and then had another set put on right towards the last season I owned it.  Unless you've got a misaligned axel, the tire tread will never wear down enough to indicate replacement like what happens on a vehicle.  

I changed my tires out about every 5-6 years. and yes I do wear them out. one thing to look at is dry rot. most trailer tires go bad from that before wearing out. because they sit. and one thing for guys to look at, get trailer tires, not regular car tires. I did this years ago. they were a lot cheeper so I said "tires are tires" so I bought the car tires. two years later I was buying the trailer tires
