Flipping Purple and Brown

Featured Replies

I live in Southern California and fish the delta some. I see a lot of people flipping. Why do they flip a PB&J colored baits?

Thank you

I’m originally from Southern California and Brown and Purple has been a popular color out west as long as I can remember.   Not sure why other than the contrast of a natural brown (crawfish) with the eye catching (purple) trailer.

Regional colors are something that is relevant just about everywhere in the country and something to take into consideration for sure.

There are a lot of things in bass fishing that don’t make sense. Why do bass  eat a bubblegum finesse worm or fluke type bait? . Important thing in my opinion is to know that it works.

The late Andy "Cooch" Cuccia who guided in the delta and made his Wadda jig famous was a fan of blue/brown jigs in the delta area. Purple/brown has been a favorite for a long time. My favorite is Anytime Anywhere color is black/purple/brown. I put this combination together in the early 70's so I could change pork rind trailers without changing jigs and it worked everywhere. Sometimes we over think things, use what works.

I've caught more 5lb or larger bass on pb&j mop jigs than any other color.
