LC Sammy

Featured Replies

sup guys,

I recently purchased a LC Sammy in hopes of learning how to 'walk the dog.' so far my technique is rusty to say the least, although I managed to hook one bass earlier this evening. I was wondering what the difficulty level was to walk the dog with this lure and should I start with something else to properly learn the technique. I'm using 6'6 medium light rod but I duno if that has much to do with the action; also, any knot recommendations for greater action?

btw, first post. I come to these boards often and am happy to finally be posting; yall have been very helpful this summer and I thank you.

Welcome aboard.

Walking the dog, is one of the most BS'd about techniques.  People like to make it sound all difficult and mysterious.  Nonesense.  with a Sammy sized properly to your tackle it's as easy as pie.

You cast our and with slack in the line jerk the rod while holding it down so the tip is pointing to the water.  get a rhythm going so you always have some slack in the line while you reel it in.

Play around with how much slack, how fast to twitch etc.  but sammy's are easy to walk.  You'll be walking it around lilly pads and stumps in no time.

I like to use a rapala knot.  the loop gives freedom of movement.

I also sometimes use a trilene knot with about a doaen twists.  the long knot coming out of the nose gives some cool action too.

Welcome aboard!

Just keep playing with the Sammy and follow avid's instructions. The LC Sammy is the easiest lure you could chose to learn this technique.

I appreciate yalls help. I plan on going fishin tonight and hope to get a better grasp on the technique; I used the rapala knot last night and felt it was best for the action; practice makes perfect, right?

RIGHT! And make sure you keep that knot tight on the lucky craft. It hurts a little when you lose em.
