modifying a jon boat

Featured Replies

Looking for someone who has pics of modifying a jon boat.  I have a 14 ft. starcraft.  I have allready bought the seats and that stuff.  I have to paint it and buy the lumber and carpet.  Any help in this matter would be great trying to get ready for spring bass fishing.

Thanks

Kewball :)

Im rebuilding a 14 FT fiberglass boat right now do a search for " My Boat " - Dont know how to post links or i would.

Also have more pix on Facebook if intersted. If you have any questions shoot me a PM.

Lots of good advice on this site. You tube as well.

Hey Shark,

You mentioned you used Fasco's epoxy as a bottom sealer on the hull. Do you remember which epoxy that was? Fasco's has so much listed on their site. Thanks.

Yea it was like super slick 2000 I think if you contact them and tell them what you are using it for they will tell you what you need.  I think the guys name was Gerry who helped me.

The mistake I made when I applied it was I mixed both quarts at once.  Don't do that b/c then it started to set up in the bucket.  Mix one put on a nice coat watch for drips and run then mix and apply the second coat.

If you need more details, click on my name to view my profile and get a link to my website (or click the WWW. link at the bottom of this post). I've got lots of pictures and details there under 'Custom Jon Boat' in the archives.

Depends on how far you want to take it. For mine about 1/2 of the stuff was available at the local Walmart.

I think the carpet cost more than anything else. I got the full marine carpet from Lowes.

I did an aluminum structure under the decks so that cost more...could have done it cheaper (and heavier) with wood. Could have saved on the carpet, I also did oak doors on my storage areas (just love the look of oak)

tinboats.net is great for getting ideas for modifying jon boats. I have gotten massive amounts of ideas from the site.

heres how my progress is so far. I have about $300 in it. that includes seats and pedastals that arent in pics. I still need to wire it and finish rear platform and then carpet and I will be done with inside. Then for the outside, I will use fasco's steelflex epoxy (the regular epoxy) with a blue pigment and do the outside of the boat.
