Info on my dad’s old fly rig?

Featured Replies

I don’t know anything about older fly equipment. My dad has had this St. Croix rod and Martin reel for about 45 years probably, and I really don’t think it ever got used. (He never really fly fished)

Worth dusting off an using? Leave it in the rack as sentimental value?

it’s a St. Croix 09FF-80ML rod and Martin 6l reel.

Looks like it's in good shape. But everything depends on whether you WANT to use it. Do you want to learn to fly cast? Are you interested? If so, it would certainly fill the bill.

OTOH, if you're not really interested, I'd just put it on the wall.

It all depends on you.    jj

p.s. - Does yours have a metal ferule or a fiberglass ferrule? If it's fiberglass, it MAY have collectors value.

Fly fishing is a blast it’s as good as top water fishing and your dad would be happy if you put it to use

I run my great uncle's Berkley Buccaneer glass rod 7wt with Heddon 320 reel.   Its a 60-70 year old combo and works great.
