I have never put an "after market" knob on a reel and was hoping to get a little info here. Really I am hoping someone could give me some correct info to save me some time and the hassle of having to put something back together I never should have taken apart in the first place LOL

 

I am a big fan of the Winn oversized grips and was interested in putting some on two difference Shimano reels. I have a Curado K and a Ci4+ spinning reel I would like to change the knobs on in favor of the Winn oversized knob. I have no idea if the size of everything is "universal" or are there certain brands that can be swapped out between each other? Just hoping for some info and hopefully some personal experience here.

For the most part, no.

 

The shaft that houses the bearings on most Shimano knobs is not the same diameter as those on the Lews knobs.

 

 

The length of the knobs will be what complicates things. If the knobs are too short you can shim them but if they're too long youre out of luck. 

 

4 x 7 x 2.5 is pretty much universal for the handle bearings so you likely wont have an issue with inner diameter

Lews and Abu use a larger diameter knob post. Most of the time they are interchangeable.

Shimano and daiwa use a smaller diameter knob post. Sometimes shimano knobs will fit on daiwa handles but not the other way around.

It with be easier to change out the whole shimano handle with a lews handle then to replace just the knobs. You will need a handle shaft spacer though. They are pretty cheap on Ali Express.

 

Well crap, this may be a bridge too far to do. Specifically talking about the Curado K if I were to use one for deep cranking and wanted to upgrade to larger/different knobs when looking for options online how would I know what would or would not fit and work with this reel?

Just get a Lews handle and put it on the Shimano with a shaft spacer. Easiest and most inexpensive option.

@mrpaoalready mentioned Abu and Lews  mostly use bigger post. I cannot comment of Lews but Abu won’t fit.

I haven't used them but know several people who love them and put them on every reel they get, picking the appropriate shape (slanted, barrel or straight) depending on the reel.
