More than that you get a free floating spool which is worth the price of admission.

Right. As far as Daiwas design, it seems like free float / supported pinion go hand in hand.

I’m starting to feel like that’s the ticket.

It is. My '17 Tat SV is the last of that series that I'll buy. It still casts as well as it ever has, but has lost it's initial smoothness. New gears only fixed that for so long. Regardless, I truly don't care about what it is now, geary, when I'm on the hunt. It is what it is. I was hero casting an 8" Strike King Bull worm into the wind before on 15lb fluoro and nothing bad happened once. It's sins are forgivable to me.

I just got off the water and was fishing with my JDM Catalina which is a Zillion HD variant. It's in a different universe as far as overall refinement goes compared to a Tat SV, so it's worth the price of admission to hit the next level. The Zillion SV isn't the HD or the Catalina. They're both another click up on the quality index, but aren't as versatile in stock form. They're bigger bait reels. You should understand up front that neither those or the Zillion SV TW will be as smooth as a brand new 6 speed Curado K. That particular reel is otherworldly smooth. Like belt driven and bathed in oil smooth. Too bad that I don't really care for it much otherwise. The Zillion SV is smooth too, but feels more connected like it actually has gears. You'll probably be happy with it.

Eh, scratch everything I just said and just get a Steez. You'll be driven insane by anything less.

And the gears.  They are not interchangeable and more expensive than the Tatula gears. They appear to be a better cut gear....

It would be interesting to know exactly what the difference is in the drive gear. If they are truly a more precision gear, that could explain some smoothness.

What is stopping Tatula 100 and Coastal 150 SV gears from being interchangeable?  I don't see why a Coastal SV gear set and possibly drag stack wouldn't drop into a Tatula 100?

I guess if you changed the drag stack, collar, drive shaft, and main gear they may swap. All of that is a a different design.

All of that except the drive shaft change is common practice in a gear swap.  The drag stack usually has to move with the donor reel's main gear and pinion.  The drive shaft is a new one though.  What is different about it and the 100?

As far as I know, the 100 drive shaft doesn’t have the 0-rings under the drive gear and ratchet, and they are definitely different part #s.

But if we’re talking changing entire lower drive assemblies, I’m sure you can do the same with a Zillion SV/ Tat SV.  Like I said earlier, by design, the assembly in those two is extremely similar. The Coastal and 100 have more differences in that portion.

Lol.
I like how we totally took this guys thread out into left field.
