Frog Hooks on Hardbaits

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried using the double frog hook style hooks on hardbaits? Someone recommended using them for the glidebaits that I use, and I was wondering how effective they are/pros and cons to regular treble hooks or decoy quads

I swap out the trebles on most of my hard baits for inline hooks. IMO, the treble hooks on most hard baits are too small, increasing the risk of the fish getting off, not to mention the danger of an extra treble hook swinging around when you're try to unhook your fish. If you're going to try this, go online and find out how to measure the replacement  online hook. It is NOT the same size as the treble.

do you think if i used frog books i would have to position the hooks the same way you have on yours (front hook facing wordward, back hook facing backward)? or are there different positions for different techniques?

The front hook definitely has to face forward or the hook will ride next to the body on the retrieve, making it nearly impossible to hook a fish. I'm thinking about turning the rear hook on the glide bait around, so it also faces forward. The hooks in the picture are correct for a bait without the big tail of the glide bait but I think the tail will impeded the hook set. If you're glide bait doesn't have a tail, face the hooks in the opposite direction. If it has a tail, like the picture, face both of them forward. Also, depending on the position of the hook eye, you might have to use two split rings to have it hang right. .
