Bantam Mgl vs Curado DC

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I'm looking to purchase a new baitcast reel I already have a DC reel but am interested in getting a reel with the MGL spool. Im predominantly going to use the reel for vibrating jigs and swim jigs. Would it be better if I go for a bantam MGL or a Curado DC? I am also interested in waiting and trying to get my hands on a curado MGL 70 but dont know if a 70 size spool would be suitable for the purpose I'm looking for.

I would get the bantam or metanium and not look back. I like the DC, use it often, but there's no comparison.

Any of those would probably get the job done.

Here is my take on them....  I have the Curado DC and it will do fine for just about any size jig.  It can cast a mile and does well in the wind and for pitching.   The Bantam MGL is smoother and slightly more heavy duty but is smaller than you would think.  I can't speak for the Curado MGL 70 but I do have the Antares 70 that which has an MGL spool.  This thing will cast further than any reel I have ever seen.   It will handle just about anything I can think of.

So if you are casting 1/2oz or 3/4 oz jigs the Bantam would be great.  If you are wanting to go with a DC reel, it will handle the lighter baits and pitching a little bit better but no MGL spool.   The 70 MGL maybe a sort of middle of the road reel (1/4oz to 1/2oz).

The bantam MGL if you look pass through the weight, it can handle down to 1/4oz with right line and rod. It also handle 1oz lure with no problem at all. I use bantam for mostly dragging Jig, chatterbait, flashy swimmer. I can cast 3/8oz swimbait hook plus 4.8 keitech into strong wind all day. Why I don’t need DC reel.

The curado 70 (none MGL) I use for everything from frog, 1oz topwater lure, 1/4 jerkbait and finesse Ned rig, weightless worm. The problem is you can spool about 80 yds of 14lb FC. Enough for fishing, yes? But once you have a few snag, you might need to spool new line. If I ever get the 70 MGL, I would dedicate that reel for light jerkbait or finesse fishing techniques.
