first trip of the spring

Featured Replies

OK.....I just got my boat back out for the spring and I'm ready to go this weekend. So what do I do to get it ready fro the water?  Once I get her on the water, what do I do to make sure everything is ok?  Thanks for the help

Before I go out I always check the trailer tires, trailer lights, boat lights, make sure the engine is running, check all saftey gear, check the tie down straps, check the winch strap and safety chains. Check all battery connections. Check fuses if you have any. Check your plugs. Check steering and throttle cables.

Don't forget to check your trailer wheel bearings, too.  If the grease is cloudy, it's been contaminated by water.  If it's black or brown (vice blu-ish green or whatever color the fresh grease is), then it's been contaminated by dirt, debris, etc...  Regardless, if it's not clean and free of foreign material, it needs to be changed.  Once a season, I'll scrape out all the old grease and repack the bearings.   I had a buddy never greased his bearings and had one blow out on him while towing his boat over a bridge.  Wasn't a pretty picture.
