Jitterbug Hooks Revisted

Featured Replies

First, I posted a similar topic a while ago and want to thank everyone for their input!

I did change out the hooks on the 5/8 oz. Bugs using #3 split rings attached to the stock hook collars with a #4 EWG on the front and a #6 round bend on the back. I found that even with the split rings, hook movement was still restricted and they would fowl each other.

I saw that a couple of you mentioned replacing stock collars with eyelets. Barlows carries these, but what size do I need for the 5/8 and 3/8 lures? And do you put them in the forward or rear holes after removing the original collars?

Thank you....Joe

You put the eyelet inbetween the 2 holes the old hangers. You more then likely have plastic Jitterbugs so the shorter length eyelets will work.

You will need to drill a hole equal to the minor thread dia, about 1/16 smaller then the thread OD. You also need to glue the holes to prevent water entering.

Can this be done with a hand drill? How do you go about starting a pilot hole in plastic? And do you need a special tool to drive the eyelet?

You can use a sharp awl.just put a dot with a sharpie and hold the lure in a vise. Tap the awl on the dot to make a indent for the drill point.

You can start a small eyelet by had and tighten with a needle plier.make sure the eyelet is lined up with the centerline of the lure. After testing the lure with hooks you can put a drop of super glue gel on the eyelet.
