Hook2 9 install

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently purchased a hook2 9 fish finder, and I am trying to install it on the bow. I ran 14 gauge wire from the front of the boat to the battery and I am trying to understand where to put in the fuse. I was told on the positive lead right next to the battery. However, the supplied fuse from the unit seems to be about 22 gauge wire. So, I would be going from 22 gauge wire to 14 gauge wire run to the front of the boat, back to 22 gauge wire which is the power cord of the unit.

Does this make sense? Or should I buy a 14 gauge inline fuse?

Thanks!

I put the fuse for my Hook2 after the run from the battery. My connection runs

Battery

Power Switch

Fuse

Hook

The other thing is my battery is in a MinnKota Power Center box - and the run to the Hook is through the accessory port - so a 5amp circuit breaker for the port itself, and the plug has a 5amp fuse as well...so triple protected.

No problem there. If they supplied 22 gauge wire, your larger diameter 14 gauge will handle the max current of the 22, plus more (even though it will never see that much current). In other words your 14 gauge is just "overbuilt." What you wouldn't want to do is run a smaller diameter wire than what they provided.

Put the fuse on the positive cable, close to the battery. Close means maybe a foot or so. It can actually be placed anywhere, but the farther it gets from the battery, the more length of wire you have that could possible get shorted out, with no fuse protection.
