light spininng ¿daiwa crossfire rod vs berkley cherrywood hd?

Featured Replies

hi friends, i have bought a shimano siena 1000 i would like to match it with a light rod in the same range of price as the siena, i will use it to finesse and light spinning  with lures in fresh water, i want a very light combo to be able to feel more the fight against the fish i have in my area which are not to big enough to give a good fight so i dont really enjoy to fish it with my other heavier tackle... so i hope you tell me your experience with this rods if you have used it, thank you very much

The cherry wood is not very sensitive at all.  You would think it would be but, that is not one Berkley’s better rods in all honesty.

What about a Berkley shock spinning rod?  I haven’t tried the spinning version of it Or even know if it comes in UL. I’ve seen them in M/l and M. I do have the bait casting lighting shock rod version and I actually have no complaints considering it was a $50 rod.  It’s fairly sensitive.

if they don’t make a UL shock rod does or it does not interest you. I’d go with crossfire

I know it's a hair above the Sienna in price but give a look at the Daiwa Aird-X spinning rod. They make an UL model as well as the ML which I have. It's $54.99 regular price, I'm sure you can find it on sale at some point or a discount code to use, and it is very highly regarded for that price point. Search "Aird" on this forum and you will see, I listened to all of that advice and am glad I did. For a spinning combo I think the rod should get a few more bucks, sensitivity is very important for a spinning rod whereas I have a little more leeway for spinning reels (as compared to baitcasters).

Between those two is the UL rod I'm using. Diawa Spinmatic...it's actually been a very good rod for me, comes in quite a variety of lengths. Cost me about $30.

It isn't bad - I have a Laguna Medium-Heavy baitcasting rod and while it's not quite up to the Aird-X (which I have a MH as well), it's sufficient.

I have an older cherrywood with even cheaper construction than the HD version which has worked great. The cheap components make it a super light rod thats great for dropshotting.

I tried the HD and its heavier than necessary and has lost the sensitivity of older models.

Thank you all for your answers.

Its also available berkley lighting rod, Shakespeare agility and Shakespeare wild series

Berkley lighting rod will be the better choice in the long run.

Dunhams had both these rods on sale for $15, the other day. They had a UL for the Cherrywood, but not the Daiwa Shock, but I wasn't interested in a UL anyway. I went to my local store and held both rods and the Cherrywood felt lighter and had a thinner diameter blank and a lot of the Daiwa Shock rods had crooked guide alignments, so I went with the Cherrywood HD. I probably won't use it much, but for $15, I thought it was a good deal, I'm just not a spinning gear guy though. Oh, the Daiwa Shock rod also came with the spinning reel too, but I still went with the Cherrywood.

I've looked over the Shock combos and haven't been impressed. That they sell them at the local convenience stores is a clue. I'll take my Mitchell Avocet combo over the Shock any day of the week.
