Dobyns Sierra 703c or Sierra 734c

Featured Replies

Which dobyns Sierra would be better with a daiwa sv tw 7.3:1. The sr 703c or 734c? Bait I will be using most senkos, Texas, chatterbait, Other plastics and will try spinners, Carolina maybe buzzbaits..  I’m shooting for a good all purpose setup until I can hone in on what works and what I like. Thanks

I have the Fury 733c so basically same action as the Sierra 703c just 3 inches longer. To me this seems like a really good sweet spot for an all purpose rod. I know many will say that one of the "4" power rods is better for Texas rigged baits, certainly jigs, which I agree if you are using it mainly for those then it may be. For me "all purpose" includes a lot of crankbaits so I felt like a 3 power works better as an all purpose under those circumstances. Having said all of that, I've had no problem setting the hook on many Texas rigged-caught fish.

I agree. I fish my 703 over my 734 or 704 whenever I need an “all purpose setup” And am limited to what I can carry.

I have the Champion 703 and 734 and as an all purpose rod I prefer the 734.  I think the 734 is one of the best rods in their line up.

Is the Sierra quality worth the extra $$ over fury line? My store has fury 734 and Sierra 734,703. Thanks

This is my first casting rig.

Fury line are fantastic for reaction baits where sensitivity is less of a need, Sierra gets the nod for worms, jigs  and bottom contact.

Im choosing between the sa 734c and sa 703c because there in stock locally and im going fishing saturday. With the current tackle I have (pictured some) 3/8 spinners/chatter, 1/4 bullet weights, 1/4 swimbait hooks. What series 734 or 703 would be better. Thanks for all the info

I have & use both of the rods you ask about. I agree with Heartland, without a doubt the 734C would be your best choice for all the baits you mentioned.

Thanks. Really Appreciate the info... This is my first setup..dont want to make to many wrong choices lol

I want to make sure we are speaking of the same rods. The Sierra series would be SA 683 C & SA 684 C That is the rods I have.

Yes , if you throw any treble hooks - then a 703C or 733C is quite good ... I favor jigs , T-Rig soft plastics . power shaky heads  and frogs , so 734c and 735c Sierra's for me . I hope to add a Sierra 733c in the future for lighter applications - really like the "sweet spot" of the Sierra series (even better when on sale) .

*Wildcard consideration : Braid or FC , Co-Poly , Mono line ? A 703c / 733c with braid main line is a different animal than used with say mono line ... Ditto with a 734c / 735c as just by changing out a reel which has braid or co-poly line on it makes those rods act much differently .

I had a 703c and I loved it, but a bowfin broke it.  I'm still mad about it. I would use it for cranks, Squarebills, topwater, chatterbaits, spinnerbait, buzzbaits (moving baits in general)...in some cases, I felt the 703c was better than the 705cb at throwing treble hook lures.

Dobyns run light, so a 3 power would be closer to a medium fast.

The 734c is a great rod. I throw spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, heavy Squarebills, 1/8oz Texas rigs, swim jigs. I have a Fury and it's plenty sensitive.

I have a 704c it's a  sleeper and overlooked in the Dobyns line. It can do everything a 734 can do. I use it for a Texas Rig rod.
