Headed to Black Lake NY

Featured Replies

So I'm planning a trip to Black Lake in a couple weeks.  I'd like to get some bass, but I love pike too and I'd love to catch some crappie.  How's the fishing in the lake?  Any advice?

Was in 1000 Islands with guide who is on Black Lake. July 24th. He didn't recommend fishing Black. It's experiencing a pretty bad algae bloom. The bite is off.

Dont know if its too late. I was thaere last saturday the 15th. We fished from around 5am until 11am. We got 8 bass with 2 of us. 3 of them were over 4lbs and several were 3-4. I hear a lot of people saying the fishing isnt good the last couple of years but i seem to get 'em. The key is to fish off shore there. Beating the banks al9ng with the other 200 boats out there any given day won't be very rewarding. There is a lot of offshore stuff to find there.

I know Black Lake REALLY well and the bite has definitely been way off this year.  The algae bloom started back in late June and has been about as bad as I've ever seen it there.  Fished 3 tournaments there this summer and tons of teams had trouble cracking limits.  I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere so you don't waste a trip.
