The bows go deep in the summer here in AZ. During my camping trip last weekend, I tried vertically jigging blade baits from my kayak after failing miserably trolling my go-to lures which is usually lights out during spring and fall. 
 

Equipped with my sonar unit, I was able to video game fish rainbow trout in 30-35ft suspended. It was this old school Heddon Sonic blade (I’m pretty sure) and was killing it! I couldn’t believe how many fish I was picking off! And in August? While experimenting with different cadences, I was picturing how I would jig for them ice fishing. 
 

So, what blade baits would you recommend for rainbow trout? BPS lazer blades and Vaults are in my cart due to the approx 1.5” profile. 1/4 oz should suffice

Thanks! Would you estimate the 1/4 oz to be approx 2”?

I LOVE the Johnson thin Fisher blade baits, all the way down to the smallest size which I use for stream trout often! It has a killer tight wiggle and doesn't tangle as often as other blade baits I've used on the rip and fall. Plus these are cheap, often found less than 4 bucks a piece. Downsides is sometimes eyes fall off, and the Hooks are okay, always always sticky sharp, but aren't super durable in the smaller sizes - they can bend out if you have a larger fish on - still 5 stars in my eyes though for the price and consistent quality though.

These look promising. Nice recommendation. Question on the clip placement: what is the action of the blade when it’s set in the rear position? I know when I’m vertically jigging, I’ll apply it to the center position.

The clip position changes the degree of the action and running depth (if you are casting and retrieving).

Front: more subtle action, will definitely run deeper if casting, harder to get to vibrate.

Middle: standard, runs evenly, still easy to get to vibrate.

Back: lure runs more "nose down" and will run shallow because of it. -hardest most aggressive thump, easiest to start to vibrate.

 

 

I tend to use the middle almost all of the time, and on occasion will flip it to the back. I haven't really used the front position too much outside of when experimenting.
