I pilot compatible fish finder

Featured Replies

So I finally have my bigger boat.  I have purchased and installed within the last month a minnkota 80lbs 24volt terrova trolling motor.  By spring I’m looking to up grade my fish finder.  Right now all I have is a garmin striker4 cv mounted on it. I’ve really have only have used the fish finder for depths readings in the past and have done pretty good.  Looking to get better

I’m kinda confused on some stuff. The trolling motor has a generic transducer in it. To get every thing out of the trolling motor and the I pilot the fish finder has to be a humming bird?  even though, it is compatible with other brands? In the spring I’m looking roughly to spend $1000-$1200 On a fish finder.

Yes Humminbirds work with Minn Kota.  Your tmotor has a universal xducer in it.  It is for 2d sonar.  If you want side and down you will have to get the mega ducer when you get a new unit.

You need I-Pilot Link to control the TM from the fish finder.  Regular I-Pilot (not I-Pilot Link) can only be controlled with the remote.

The transducer in the Terrova will work with Humminbird, Garmin and Lowrance depth finders. You just need to purchase the correct adapter cable. The transducer will not work with side imaging. I have down imaging capabilities on my Garmin unit but I never use that feature so I don’t know if the built in transducer on the MK will work. I don’t think it will. Currently, I move my Terrova between two boats I own. One of them has a Lowrance and the other Garmin. Now if you want the trolling motor to follow contours from the depth finder, you need to use the Humminbird.

Went and played around with fish finders to day at cabelas.  The higher end striker 7 units were nice i think those were $500ish bucks.  But, they had another garmin echo map plot unit for like $750 bucks that had chart plotter, down scan, side scan, and a live view ( need to buy a $1500 transducer for that though).

So obviously I couldn’t really use it with my universal sonar in the trolling motor.  Would I gain any thing by hooking my striker 4 to the trolling motor up front.  Than having another fishfinder  with side scan/down scan transducer at the back of the boat for the other better fish finder? basically running 2 fish finders.
