Upgrade to a Sierra or get another mojo bass?

Featured Replies

So today on a total wimb I bought a dobyns fury 662 spinning rod. I tried it out today and to me it feels dead. I was dragging a 1/8oz tube insert and other finesse stuff and there was times i was dragging and I couldn't really feel the rocks  it was bumping into. So I swapped to my 6'8 Mojo bass and same bait and I felt rocks. So my question is do I upgrade to a Sierra or stick with mojo bass? I know they're not exact same price but I'm curios if the extra cost of the Sierra is worth it or just grab a 6'10 ml mojo spinning rod.

Did both rods have the same line? Line type has a lot of bearing on sensitivity.

I own 4 dobyns fury rods and 4 mojo bass rods. The Dobyns rods are all more sensitive than the st Croix mojo bass rods.

I brought the Sierra 704sf mh rod. It's a very versatile rod and so sensitive trust me you will love it.

Contact Dobyns they may have good deal for you.

Like others have mentioned line will make a difference it ones ability to feel bottom composition. if you’re running braid to leader on the mojo, put the same reel on your fury to try. Personally speaking, I like a little longer rods than 6’6” for casting and dragging baits.

The Serria series is one I haven’t fished, but would feel confident in recommending to you. The Serrias are a solid line, if you upgrade ask for specifics in the rod from Dobyns and they can help pick the one for you.

Yeah it was the exact same reel. I agree with longer rod the reason for the length is due to wading and fishing smaller creeks etc. I might give it another shot and see I really wanna like dobyns

Your exp. is WAY WAY different than mine when comparing a Mojo to a Fury. I have owned a bunch of BOTH. And the Fury's are much better. I don't own any St Croix rods any more, because at the price of the Fury's, you'd have to spend a good bit more to equal the performance from a St Croix.  The old SCII Mojo's, Premier's, and Triumph's...while nicely built/finished were pretty underwhelming to me at the price point. I don't have any exp. with the more recent SCIII Mojo's., but I did have Avid's and Rage's. And they were where I felt like St Croix's started to shine. Legend Tournaments were pretty awesome, but they are also pretty expensive for me.
