Fuel Lines for 86 Challenger Bass Boat

Featured Replies

I am pretty sure I will need to replace the fuel lines since it's an older boat and the previous owner only went out a few times the past couple of years.  Good thing is it was kept dry in the garage.

Does anyone know the proper fuel lines to replace in an older boat with a Johnson 75hp motor?  I have seen some people say do not get the grey hoses with red lettering, but not sure if that was for a mercury or not.

Thanks!

I can't speak to the Johnson, but I can tell you what I did for my 93 2 stroke Suzuki 140:

Fuel filler hose: 1 1/2 inch Gates fuel filler hose

Fuel overflow/vent hose: 5/8 inch Gates fuel line

Fuel sender hose: 3/8 inch Gates fuel line

Fuel primer bulb and hose: Attwood 3/8 inch kit

I got all the fuel lines at an autoparts store, sold by the foot. Cut to fit with hose clamps. All black (except the Attwood kit which was grey). The old lines were extremely stiff and brittle and definitely in need of being changed.

Thanks scatter, much appreciated!

I had my boat in to the dealer for some repairs about two years ago. The told me I need a new fuel line and primer bulb between the gas tank and the motor. The problem with the gray hoses I had was that ethanol would damage them. The hoses the put on my boat was blue. If I can find a brand name on it I will let you know.

Ty Greg, I see you are not too far up north from me.

Don't use the gray plastic looking stuff, pure junk and gets hard and brittle.  Try to find you a name brand that's still made in the USA.   I'm yet to see any of that cheap imported crap worth installing.  Gates used to be my go to brand, but dang if I didn't get some that was supposed to be Gates that was imported.  So, look closely, if not USA, don't bother with using it, I have not seen an imported one that does not get hard and brittle within a couple of years.

Thanks for that tip on the Gates!
