Spybait, ¼ or ⅓ ounce?

Featured Replies

I've got a 7' Medium Fast Tatula XT Spinning rod, a 7' ML Daiwa Aird-X, and a 6'10" 13 Fate Chrome.

The bait in question is the Berkley SPY 70mm, but there are ¼ and ⅓ ounce versions.  Which should I be throwing?

I only got approved for 20 bucks on Amazon by the fiancee this go around, so it's gonna be those Berkley SPYs, @roadwarrior.

My initial views on spy baiting are akin to watching paint dry ! ... I would think fishing a C-Rig would be more exciting - in the right hands and in the right conditions though  I'm sure it works ...

Depends what you want to use it for?  The 1/4 oz version is designed for shallow water and 1/3 oz for deeper water. I believe the 1/4 oz sinks slower.

Headed to Lake Blue Ridge this weekend and I'll be targetting main lake points.  It's relatively clear and I'll be making casts towards swallow water, waiting 20 seconds, and bringing it back slowly.

I ended up deciding on the ⅓.  Thanks for your input!
