Can you throw a cast net from a kayak?

Featured Replies

I fractured my heel and can’t put any weight on my foot. My friends load my kayak for me, I just get in and float/fish.  I used to catch live crawdads by hand, flipping over rocks and scooping them up with a small net but that’s obviously not an option now. I set a crawdad trap but I’m not very hopeful, hasn’t worked in the past. I have a nice cast net that I’ve barely used, do you think it is possible to throw it successfully from my kayak? How about from a lawn chair? If not how do you suggest I get live bait out of the river? I take nightcrawlers with me which work well but I prefer minnows and crawdads.

I could probably throw a little 3.5' net from a kayak, which is about all I'd want to do from one anyways. Those are small enough you can throw with just your arms without having to put any twisting or upper body into it.

I can’t remember how big mine is, I think it’s a 4’
