Outdoor Recreation Roundtable Addresses State of the Industry

Featured Replies

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, a coalition of organizations including the American Sportfishing Association, RV Industry Association, National Marine Manufacturers Association, Outdoor Industry Association and Motorcycle Industry Council met this week to discuss the state of the outdoor recreation industry while outlining member survey results on the impact of COVID-19 on the industry conducted in conjunction with Oregon State University.
“We were ranked in May by the U.S. Census Bureau as the second most impacted industry,” said Lindsey Davis, vice president of Outdoor Recreation Roundtable. “We were second to food and restaurants, hit 31% harder than the national average.”

Interesting, but nothing personal, I know how these panels work and sometimes it is hard to believe what they say.

In Virginia the store fishing aisle shelves were empty. Walmart was hit hard. Favorite baits were gone at local tackle shops.  Boats of all types and jet skis on the water everywhere.

Ramps were backed up'ed.

People[tubing and skiing all over the place.

Long lines to purchase fire arms.

Green Top, Cabala's, and BPS in the greater Richmond, Virginia area were hit hard with gun sales.

Ammo flew off the shelves.

Kayak sales went through the roof.

People all over the place while on the water and at the ramps without wearing any masks or keeping six-feet apart.

So yes, it is nice to see these associations and councils get together and discuss their problems but in reality what is really going on?
