Rod tip insert replacement

Featured Replies

I have a 7’ MH/F Duckett Jacob Wheeler rod. The top guide has had the inner insert popped out. I have taken it off the roster since I noticed, but was curious where I could send it (if near the San Antonio area) or if sending it to DVT would be my best bet. Thanks for the help in advance. I can take pictures of the tip if needed.

Replacing inserts is not the way to go - I know that DVT can replace the entire tip-top, but it's actually fairly easy to do yourself.

Thanks for the reply. I’d like to learn how to do it on my own, just a little nervous, which is understandable. I think I’ll take some time, gather the proper supplies and attempt to fix myself. I’m in no no rush as I have a couple other rods to fill in and I’d rather learn how to make the repair. Slow and steady. Thanks for the vid.

Don’t be. I was when had to do this to one of my rods. Just take your time. It was so easy I started laughing after I finished because it was so easy and I was initially so scared because it was a prized rod, lol. You can do it.

I appreciate the confidence. I like to do things myself after making sure I study beforehand. It is my favorite rod that’s why I want to save it haha.

Then we have a lot in common on that front. Exact same scenario and I too studied. I went nice and slow and stayed patient as I heated the rod tip to soften the glue that held it to the rod tip. Post a pic when you’ve replaced. You’ll be all smiles. Guaranteed.

I appreciate you thinking of me but shipping would be cost prohibitive for that repair. Replacement of the guide is the fix and the video walks you Through it. Feel free to reach out with questions.

Ya, $15-$20 (minimum) shipping each way...replacement tip less than $5 for a Fuji Alconite, $5-$10 for the rest of the materials if you don't have it. Tip replacements are super-simple...I remember doing my first one when I was 15 way back.
