Putting motor on bass boat

Featured Replies

Hey everybody. I am looking to buy a bass boat, but it doesn't have the motor. The owner says it had a 30HP Mercury on it previously. Forgive me for my ignorance but can I put any motor on it, or does it have to be a Mercury? What about HP? Also, do I need one with "controls" or not? I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance!

Edit:  Here's the boat if that helps rochester(dot)craigslist(dot)org/boa/1157310619.html

You can put any brand motor on the boat but if it already has controls on the boat they will probably only fit a Mercury motor. If no controls you can either tiller steer if you get a tiller steer motor or buy all the controls for the motor.
