typical trolling motor battery life

Hey all,

What's the typical expected life of a trolling motor battery?  I've had my job boat with two 24 V motors and the original 4 batteries for 3 years now.  At what point should I seriously consider replacing these?

I saw my batts at the lowest level I've ever seen them after a day out on the water yesterday, so this got me thinking.

I have a Minn-Kota 24v and I change the batteries out every 18 months or so. I'm hard on them, and stand on them relentlessly.

Depends on how good of a charger you have, the quality of the battery to start with, how deep you discharged them, and how well you have kept them charged and maintained.

Life of a battery is not measured in time, it's measured by charge cycles.   That can be 150 to over 1,000, and that's all base on the first sentince.

I just took batteries out of the boat I leave at the lake because they had gotten to where they only reach 1.255 specific gravity and were loosing power after about five hours use.   The date codes on these batteries were 2002.  The ones in my Javelin are dated 2/2005 and still charge to 1.280 and run all day with no problems.

More or less depending on use 2yr - 3yrs is average

Keep 'em filled with water and they'll last longer. I had a mechanic tell me I needed to repalce mine last year. I popped the "maintenance free" caps off of them and filled them with distilled water and charged them. They are running hard and strong. These batteries were installed 2005.
