Likely a jig-specific rod 1/4oz to 1/2oz.
Pair with a Daiwa Tatula Elite high speed baitcast

Are you referring to this rod, TAEL761HFB-AGS (1/4 - 1-1/2)? If so then the Dobyns, as its weight rating(1/4-1 oz) is a lot closer to your intended use.

Take a look at the Dobyns 703c or 733c, my 703 handles those weights great and has plenty of backbone.

Yes, TAEL761HFB-AGS but I’m open to other Daiwa Tatula Elite options if that model is too much of a broomstick.

Hopefully someone with experience with Tatula Elite can chime, I'm simply going by lure weight rating on the two rods you mentioned.

TAEL731MHFB by listed specs is closest to a DC744c which is a lot closer to the weight range you are looking to throw.

One of the best tips I learned here on BR, is that most if not all rods perform best when throwing baits that weigh close to the median of the rods weight range. 1/4oz jig + trailer+ hook, skirt combined weight should match (close to) median value of rods bait weight range.

Call Dobyns (they answer the phone), I did when I bought my Champion. They helped me drill down the choices for my specific needs.

Hewhospesksmuch, that is excellent advice!!

Dobyns champion 735c. If that's your purpose that's the ideal rod. Just trust me on that one. Quite a few sales on dobyns now. I've pitched 1/8 oz weighted brush hogs to 5/8 oz jigs on it. That tip is phenomenal

I believe you may have seen my comment in another thread, but given new info, the Dobyns 744C would be much more inline with the weights of those baits. Unless you're looking for a flipping stick to throw them in heavy cover with braid, but at which point I would think you would want 1/2oz and 3/4oz and maybe even 1oz jigs anyway.

I mean, for my complete jig setup, I would want (and I have) both rods, and the only time I would really throw the same jig on them would be a 1/2oz jig and it would depend what sort of cover I'm throwing it in.

The TAEL731MHFB as @Hewhospeaksmuchbull suggested would be a fairly similar rod to the Dobyns rod. I kind of wish they had that one with AGS guides. I have regular Tatulas and they're pretty solid rods though.

The 703C/733C might be a bit overloaded with a 1/2oz jig plus a trailer, but it's great with 1/4oz jigs. The 4 power will handle a 1/2oz fine but can still fish a 1/4oz, so I'd personally start there. I will note the Dobyns 3 and 4 powers make a very versatile pairing though for what it's worth.

Is the Dobyns 744  a decent rod to throw weightless Senkos with like a 3/0 hook?

You can throw them but they do not cast well. It casts senkos with a 1/4 oz weight real well.

For the Dobyns line the Sierra 703C is fantastic for weightless Senkos.

Can’t speak for the 744, but the Champion 734 throws weightless superflukes on a 5/0 hook a country mile with very little effort.
