Does anyone use the 7'9" H Carbonlite for Alabama Rigs? How about smaller swimbaits with trebles up to about 3oz? I'm looking for a rod for these uses and was wondering if it would work as it is readily available locally.

The A rig is forbidden on the tidal Potomac, so I will never know, but that is a heavy rod for 1-4oz and up to 30lb line, so I don't know whey it would not do the job.

It might work just fine but if you decide on something else The Dobyns fury 795 sb is exactly what your looking for. It’s what I use for the exact Bait’s you mentioned it’s perfect.

I used the Fury 795SB a lot this year for the umbrella rig and it worked great except for casting. It did not load up enough to really fling the rig so I don't get the best distance.

 

I have been wondering about softer tipped or slower rods that fit the bill but have not narrowed it down and I have no idea if they will work better. 

I use a cabelas tournament zx 7'9 heavy for those techniques and it works great! Id guess the carbonlite is quite similar and would work equally as good!

I use a Guide Select for A-rigs over my Fury 795. As mentioned, the 795 doesn't load great with an A-rig so casting distance isn't great, which is a big deal with a rig you want to cover water with. The Guide Select loads well and really launches them out there. I use it for standard swimbaits during the warmer months.

Glad I'm not the only one that thought that about the Fury.

 

What model Okuma Guide Select do you use?

That’s interesting considering the fury 795 sb is actually a moderate rod mine loads up great. How heavy was the umbrella rig you were throwing?

Flash mob Jr.  With 5 - 3.8 Rage Swimmers three with 1/8oz heads and two with 1/4 oz heads.

 

This is probably considered a lighter rig?

I would consider that light for that rod the 795 sweet spot is 3oz. I use it for spro rats 50 size 6” bullshads and Swaver 200s 

How about the Duckett 7'6" XH? It has a great tip on it, the price is right and readily available. If it'd work, someone buy the reels I have listed on here. Haha. I gave this rod the wiggle test at BPS tonight and think it'd work well for the tasks at hand, A-Rig, 6" Bull Shad, 7" Slammers, etc.

I think it's something with the rig being spread out that messes it up. Maybe the rod being a little shorter too? Mine does great with 2-3 ounce glides and wake baits, but the A-rig it doesn't seem to like as much.
