Sellus casting rods...

Anybody have experience with the newer blue version of these rods? Looking at the 6ft8 medium for a jerk bait rod. How true is the power and action ratings on these?

If that is where your budget is, with the Sellus being a medium fast action rod at that price, I don't think you'll have too much complain about. I get why jerkbait rods are usually on the short side since you want to keep the tip low so much of the time. I don't think you'll find any similarly priced rods that have an XF action, which IMHO is a good quality to have in a jerkbait rod because you don't have to back off so far on the jerk to make the bait stop DEAD in the water when you pause.

You'd have to move up to the SLX CX610M to get something like that, and that's double the price at $99 MSRP rather than $49. If you really want a dedicated jerkbait rod and want to fish it regularly, I'd be tempted to save a bit more to get the SLX. If you want to use it for other things too and jerkbaits aren't your top priority, then the Sellus can get you in the game.

Also check out the Daiwa Aird - X for a similar price as the Sellus . I have hand picked Sellus spinning specific rods (small jig , drop shot) and am happy with them for the price .

I have a heavy Aird I use for frogs and its excellent for the money. This is a great option for sure.

Despite upgrading 4 rods this year - my H/F Aird-X will remain my flip/pitch/frog rod for next year. It's done well the past 2 seasons, so it wasn't at the top of the queue.

Do you have any experience with the 6ft6 medium Aird casting rod? Wondering how it would be for a jerk bait rod?

Two of the rods I upgraded this year were a 6'6" M/F casting and a 6'6" M/F spinning - both Airds. They worked fine for jerks, wackys, shakeys. I just went to FR703C and FR703SF for both this year.

*Just about every one can benefit from a 6'6" ~ 7' M/F casting rod . You can use mono , FC and braid with this rod and get a different action and hook set (delay) with a number of lures .
