I'll definitely take more precautions in the future and I hardly ever go out in these cold months, and I feel you on that!

I was actually taught otherwise, wet clothes can absorb a lot of heat so the heat goes to the clothes, not your body. Plus it was in the 30s, but the sun was starting to shine, so I was trying to soak that up.

Where does the heat go without the wet clothing? Clothes may protect you from wind even when wet.

I'm not sure what the right move is here for sure, but that reasoning doesn't seem sound.

As evaporation happens it ducks heat out (from somewhere). Remember those old military canteens?  You soaked the canvas out cover and it would cool the beverage inside.

but wool seems to help hold heat when wet. So. . Dunno.    I’ll get back to the wine now. :)

Its another - 'it depends' as fsr as the wet clothes. Layers of wet clothes, especially wool or fleece, will still hold geat and keep evaporative cooling from happening at ypur skin surface. If you have a long walk or whatnot, better to leave the layers on as long as theyre not too heavy. Once you have a good heat source and/dry clothes, get out of the wet clothes. They wont keep you warm but they'll slow your chill better than running around nekkid. This is NOT true of a thin cotton or microfiber layer. That will speed your cooling as it wicks and evaporates moisture. Some if the worst times to fall out are indian summer evenings where the air is initially warm but water is cold.
