Why did Green MF glitter bleed?

Featured Replies

Hi, I poured some worms using chartreuse colorant with green and black glitter, MF brand. The green glitter bled terribly turning the chartreuse completely green. The black glitter held up fine - so I don't believe the plastisol was too hot? But I could be wrong. Are there any other reasons the green would bleed while the black didn't?

I’m guessing too hot.  Do you have a thermometer?

Are your sure the flakes bleed? Adding green glitter to translucent chartreuse will look lime green. Try using blue flake with chartreuse, it’s better imo.

I think both of those are possibilities.

The plastisol though clear still could have been too hot because you're suspicion is correct, I dont have a thermometer.  And it seems I need one.

Plus, the chartreuse colorant was translucent and the effect did look lime green afterwards so I suppose that could be it too. If so, I'm bummed.  I was trying to reproduce a lure color that I used to be able to purchase which is no longer available.  It was a light chartreuse color with green & black glitter. This was my ho to in every body of water I fished when I couldn't get a bite so accomplishing this is important to me.

Of course, using green glitter in the chartreuse worked for the manufacturer. I wondering if they used less glitter to avoid the effect you mentioned (and possibly a lower temp too?).

If the plastisol is too hot it tends to stiffen the worm. If the finished worm is soft and flexible the temp was ok.

Try holding the worm up to sunlight to determine if colors bleed. A blue flake in translucent chartreuse can look green deeper in the plastic and blue near the surface.

Keep experimenting until it looks right to you or use them they look good to the bass as is.
