Belly weighted EWG hooks on A-Rig???

Featured Replies

I was at Wal-Mart getting groceries and I always cruise the fishing aisle. Was looking for some longer shank ball head jigs to use on my new A Rig but all they have were crappie size ones in 1/16oz. Two reasons I wanted them. I'm running all 1/8oz now and wanted two lighter for the top because ive heard it helps balance it better in the water and they are all SK Squadron swimbait heads with ridiculous large soft plastic keepers that blow out the nose on Swimmin Flukes.

I saw these in 1/16oz and figured for $2 what the hey. I thought about using unweighted EWG hooks or straight shank worm hooks for the top and to keep overall weight down but I think the little weight on the top two arms will be better for balance.

Anyone use either EWG or screwlock weighted or even unweighted hooks on an A Rig?

I've done the screwlock type. They work pretty well, but hook up ratio does seem to go down.

Yeah I know exposed hook always has a better hook up ratio in every situation. I'm not sure running weedless hooks on that big of a setup will help much, except snagging on wood. But I figured it couldn't much if the action isnt effected.

And no I didnt pay $7.50 for a pack haha. It was like $1.97.
