Swimbait Setup

Featured Replies

Looking for a good swimbait rod. Don't need anything crazy heavy duty, I'm throwing anywhere from 1/2 oz baby bull shad to 1 5/8 oz s waver 168. More worried about handling that s waver than anything as I can throw some of the lighter swimbaits on my other rods if needed. Thinking I will go with the dobyns 735c. What rod would you all suggest? And what reel would be a good pair up for this? Will probably use 15 to 20 lb flouro. Also in this size range any other swim baits I should take a look at?

St croix has a 7’11” heavy mod/fast in several different rod models.  Good for lure weight up to 2 ounces.   I like my older style legend xtreme

There is another thread about that somewhere here, I would say take a look for the  Dobyns Fury 795SB.

It's a versatile rod that I use for sb and oversized crank like Big M 7.5

About the reel it depends on your budget and if you want a dedicate one or something versatile but an heavy duty reel in the 200 or 300 size will do the job IMO.  Curado, Calcutta D, Tranx, Tatula.....
