SLX Line for tournaments

Featured Replies

Our club is looking to get rods and reels for our tournament fishing. I have used the casitas and do not feel it is reliable enough for tournament fishing. We are looking at the slx dc and slx 70. Would these reels be good enough for a tournament?

Yes any of the SLX reels will do. Personally I like the standard $99 one.

I'm currently using 3 of the regular slx reels for tournament and fun fishing!  Lotta reel for the $

SLX will work fine for rough duty. I liked everything about mine except the size, It was just ergonomically too small for my hand, But a lot of folks like smaller reels, so no issue there for most.

Love the reels (I have an SLX XT and DC in my lineup). So much reel for a good price. I have a casitas as well  -  the SLX feels better. I'll would definitely buy another if I could convince the wife I need a another setup ?

The rods, however, are a bit stiff. M feels like MH to me. Seems like that's the trend Shimano is going with recently (I've heard the same can be said about the zodias lineup).

I have an SLX and two SLX DCs. They would be fine for tournament fishing. Very well built reels.

Just curious if your club is getting a bunch of rods to share between the members or do they each have dedicated setups. Also do they have their own rod and reels or do they have to use the club equipment?

Casitas is a fine reel, what don't you like about it?

I'm one of the few guys on here who doesn't care for his SLX. It has a geary whine that my nearly 80 year old father heard from the back of the boat.
