Minn Kota trolling motor question

Featured Replies

Question about Minn Kota trolling motors. What is the difference between the Edge and the Max??? And what’s the difference between BG and the SC and what does it mean??? Anyway I guess I meant 3 questions. Thanks for the input...

The Edge is a specific model and so is the Max, which is short for Maxxum. They are both models made by Minn Kota.

They are both cable steer models. The Maxxum is the better model of those two.

Not sure what BG or SC is, maybe someone can answer that.

The Edge would be considered and entry level bow mount.

I has five speed analog control.

The Max is a better motor all the way around.

It has a better mount

It also available with digital control, fully variable speed control

With the Maximizer built in, you get much longer run time in the mid to lower speed settings.

SC is the 42" five speed model

BG is the 54" maximizer model

there is the 42" Maximizer.

If you can swing it, pick the Max or Max BG  with Maximizer over the Edge anytime.

Thanks Waytoslow, that’s  exactly what I needed to know. I have now know which one I’m getting. thank you again

I just sold my old Sea Nymph and let the 55lb Maxxum go with it. My Tracker has an Edge 45 on it and I am kicking myself for not swapping as finding the 55 is impossible now. Not even on MK's site anymore. I miss the variable speed, easier deployment and the easier to use momentary foot button.  Going to pick up a used one for sure.
