IPT simple to check on your rod-reel-line combo.

All you need is a Sharpie pen and a ruler/tape measure.

Tie on a lure, hold the rod up and release the line off the reel about 4’. Make the line at the rod tip. Engage the reel, turn the handle 1 full 360 degree turn. Make another mark on the line at the rod tip. Measure the inches between the 2 line marks = IPT of your full reel of line.

2nd IPT is after your make your normal casting distance. Make your cast and engage the reel. Now make a mark on the line at the rod tip. Turn the reel handle 1 full 360 torn and make the second mark on the line at you rod tip. Measure the inches between marks = IPT after casting.

It’s useful to know how many inches of line your reel retrieves and how it changes during the retrieve.
